Setting Sail for Adventure

A Brief History

Antigua Sailing Week has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1968. What began as a humble regatta has evolved into one of the most prestigious sailing events in the world. Over the years, it has attracted sailors from all corners of the globe, each drawn by the promise of challenging races and unforgettable experiences. This is the 55th year of the country hosting the regatta, and Antigua’s crystal-clear waters and consistent trade winds make it the perfect setting for a week of high-octane racing. From the moment sailors set foot on the island, they’re greeted by the promise of challenging courses, breathtaking scenery, and world-class competition.

The Venue: Antigua’s Nautical Paradise

Nestled in the heart of the Leeward Islands, Antigua boasts some of the most stunning sailing conditions imaginable. With its trade winds, azure waters, and secluded coves, the island offers the perfect backdrop for a week of high-octane racing and laid-back camaraderie. The Sailing Week Regatta takes place in English Harbour which is home to Nelson’s Dockyard- a marina and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Racing Divisions: Something for Everyone

One of the things that sets Antigua Sailing Week apart is its diverse range of racing divisions. From sleek monohulls to high-performance catamarans, Antigua Sailing Week welcomes sailors of all stripes. The regatta features a range of racing divisions, ensuring that competitors of every skill level have their moment in the spotlight. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a novice sailor, there’s a division that’s perfect for you.

This year a new Race has been added called the Antigua Wind Foil Championships which will showcase three consecutive days of racing including two days on a fast-paced course in Falmouth Harbour and a long-distance downwinder along the island’s south coast to coincide with English Harbour Rum Race Day.

Spectators can also enjoy the fun with the Chase the Race option which allows non-sailors to view the races by Land, Air, or Sea..

In addition to the overall regatta, many of the racing divisions at Antigua Sailing Week also feature class championships, where boats compete against others of similar design or size. These class championships add an extra layer of excitement to the regatta, as sailors battle it out for bragging rights within their respective classes.

The Courses

Each day of Antigua Sailing Week brings a new set of challenges, as competitors navigate a series of carefully designed courses around the island. From short, adrenaline-fueled sprints to grueling offshore races, the regatta offers a diverse array of racing experiences. And with the backdrop of Antigua’s stunning coastline, every race is a feast for the senses.
